Sideswipe Accident Injures Children, Among Others

CarAcc3

Several people, including two children, escaped serious injury recently in a Miami Gardens auto accident that occurred on southbound Interstate 75 when one vehicle sideswiped another and both vehicles crashed into the highway’s retaining walls. Altogether, four people were transported to local hospitals for treatment; fortunately, according to reports, none of the accident victims suffered any life-threatening injuries.

Finding Fault In A Sideswipe Accident

One of the important things that takes place after any accident is determining which driver was at fault for the incident. In some types of accidents, it is very simple to assess fault, but in others, the fault-finding process can be much more difficult and complex. Because a sideswipe accident can occur in many different ways, the facts of the accident must be carefully analyzed to determine who caused it to happen. If, for example, a driver sideswipes another vehicle that is legally parked, there is little chance that the sideswiping driver will not be found completely at fault for the accident. Similarly, if a driver leaves their travel lane and sideswipes another driver who is driving within their travel lane, the sideswiping driver will again most likely be found to bear sole responsibility for causing the accident. In a scenario where both drivers stray from their travel lanes for some reason or if each driver has engaged in some kind of activity that contributes to the accident’s occurrence, such as tailgating, for example, then both drivers can be found partially at fault.

Other Side-Impact Crashes

The sideswipe accident is one type of side-impact crash, and occurs when one vehicle hits a second vehicle at an angle. Another type of side-impact crash, however, that tends to be more severe is a commonly known as a “T-bone” crash, or being broadsided. This occurs, as can be envisioned, when one vehicle hits another one in a perpendicular fashion. A side-impact collision can cause severe injuries because, unlike front- or rear-end collisions, in which there are several bumpers, engines, and other miscellaneous auto parts between you and the other vehicle, in a side-impact collision there is usually not much more than just a door and a window between you and the other vehicle.

A Look At Side-Impact Injuries

Over the years, many studies have focused on rear-end collisions and injuries typically sustained in those types of accidents. Side-impact collisions also lead to serious injuries as well, and statistics indicate that between ten and eighteen percent of side-impact accident victims suffer soft-tissue neck injuries.
