Car Accidents Involving Victims From Out of State

CarChainAccident

Some states share borders with more other states than there are cardinal directions, but the same cannot be said of Florida. Most of its nearest neighbors are aquatic ecosystems; its only land borders are with Georgia and Alabama, and if you live in the southern part of the peninsula and you head north on a road trip, then you can drive all day without crossing state lines. Despite this, if you look for license plates from other states on the roads of Florida and in its parking lots, you will not be disappointed. Around the touristic areas, you will see people of all ages who traveled to Florida on interstate road trips. Then there are the seniors who make a long road trip across the country and then stay in Florida for the whole winter. As prices have climbed in the Sunshine State, other less expensive but less fun states have tried to steal Florida’s title as the jewel of the Sun Belt, but they have not succeeded. Estate planning lawyers always tell clients that if they decide to spend part of each year in Florida after they retire, they must decide which state is their legal domicile, their official home, because this matters for purposes of taxes and voting. With personal injury law, the rules are somewhat different. If you get injured in an accident in Florida, any resulting legal actions must take place in Florida, whether you live here permanently, you were just visiting briefly, or somewhere in between. If you are a retiree and you got injured in a car accident during the part of the year that you spend in Florida, contact a Fort Lauderdale auto accident attorney.

Two Seniors From Iowa Die in Multi-Vehicle Collision in Florida

One Friday evening, things went disastrously wrong on a quiet stretch of US-19 in Citrus County. The trouble started when a Ford F250 tried to make a left turn onto West Venable Street. The driver of the Ford misjudged how much room he had to make the turn, and he collided with a Buick Enclave which was driving in the lanes of US-19 that he was attempting to cross while turning. The two vehicles collided, and the Ford F250 flipped, landing on the road shoulder. Meanwhile, the Buick spun, eventually crossing the center lane. It all happened so fast that a Dodge 2500 that was approaching in the southbound lanes could not avoid hitting the Buick.

The two occupants of the Buick, ages 19 and 20, were uninjured, as were the driver and passenger in the Ford, both of whom were in their 20s. All three occupants of the Buick were in their 70s. The two passengers died in the collision, and the driver suffered injuries that required hospitalization, but as of the time that news reports were published, his injuries were not considered life threatening. All the occupants of the Buick were from Iowa.
