West Palm Beach, FL – Yudelkis Diaz Fatally Struck on Military Trl

West Palm Beach, FL - Yudelkis Diaz Fatally Struck on Military Trl

West Palm Beach, FL (February 10, 2021) – A 32-year-old woman was killed on Sunday, February 7th when she was struck by a vehicle on Military Trail in suburban West Palm Beach.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the victim, who has since been identified as Yudelkis Diaz, a resident of West Palm Beach, was trying to cross Military Trail when she was struck by a 2020 Kia Forte heading northbound at about 4:30 a.m.

The force of the impact launched Diaz onto the hood of the Kia, causing it to swerve and strike the median, throwing Diaz to the pavement in the area of Southern Boulevard, near Palm Beach International Airport.

Paramedics pronounced Diaz dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, a male whose name has not been released, stayed at the crash site and notified authorities.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Yudelkis Diaz, at this time.

Pedestrian Fatalities in West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach, FL - Yudelkis Diaz Fatally Struck on Military Trl

Whenever a pedestrian dies during an auto accident, there are a lot of things that need to be handled quickly and correctly if the surviving family members want to seek financial compensation for the wrongful death. With Florida’s adherence to no-fault insurance laws, a claim may not be instantly filed against the person liable for the death.

Before a claim is able to be filed, evidence that shows the driver’s negligence must be collected. This is most often accomplished by re-creating the collision, obtaining statements from any witnesses, evaluating the driving record of the negligent driver, and examining footage from any traffic cameras in the area.

Florida gives its residents a very short statute of limitations. After that time runs out, the family will no longer be allowed to bring a claim. In other words, it is imperative that you speak with a Florida wrongful death attorney as soon as possible after the accident.

If you recently lost a loved one to wrongful death in Florida, the law entitles the personal representative of their estate, typically a surviving parent, child, or spouse, to file a wrongful death suit in state court for financial compensation for monetary damages.
