West Palm Beach, FL - Two Killed, Three Hurt in Christmas Day Crash on Congress Ave.

West Palm Beach, FL (December 26, 2020) – Two people are dead and three others seriously injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Christmas Day in West Palm Beach. The accident took place just after 4:00 a.m. on Congress Avenue at the intersection with Forest Hill Boulevard.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of the crash. According to an initial investigation by troopers, a vehicle was traveling southbound on Congress when it came to a red light. For unknown reasons, the vehicle failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection, colliding with a second car that was traveling westbound on Forest Hill. Vehicle one rotated in the opposite direction before traveling into the tree line and coming to rest against a building. The second vehicle hit a traffic sign and came to rest on a sidewalk.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 25-year-old woman, and a passenger in the second vehicle, a 23-year-old man, died in the crash. Three other occupants of the second vehicle ranging in age from 23 to 25 were all seriously hurt and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Troopers have not identified anyone involved in the accident and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Fatal Accidents in Florida

According to records maintained by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were more than 3,000 fatal car accidents in Florida in 2019. This number increased from the year before as more motorists tragically lost their lives due to crashes that took place throughout our state. The risk of driving in Florida can be high, especially given the number of negligent drivers that are on the roadways each and every day. Sadly, many victims of Florida car accidents will suffer injuries due to the careless and reckless actions of other drivers and will not actually be at fault themselves for the crash.

Under Florida law, family members may have certain legal rights following a fatal accident. If your loved one has been killed, you could be entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the other driver. A Florida wrongful death claim should only be handled by an attorney with experience in the area as these claims are complicated and require a strong knowledge of the relevant law and procedure surrounding them.
