Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Florida

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable crash victims on our roadways. Naturally, a pedestrian has no protection from the force and impact of a serious collision. According to data maintained by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and motor vehicles, about 600 people are killed in Florida pedestrian accidents on an annual basis. Many of these victims are killed when they are involved in crashes that are not their fault. While each accident must be closely investigated, many pedestrian accidents in Florida are caused by drivers who are distracted and fail to see or yield to a pedestrian until it is too late to avoid a collision.

Under Florida law, the victims of a pedestrian crash may be entitled to recover compensation for their injuries. This includes family members who lost their loved ones in a crash. If the pedestrian was not at fault for the collision, they could have legal rights to obtain a recovery for damages including lost wages, loss of companionship, payment of funeral and medical bills, and more. The specific value of the case can only be determined by an attorney with experience in this area.
