Propane Gas Explosion in Miami-Dade Strip Mall

South Florida is famous for its terrifying wildlife and for the violence associated with its drug trafficking enterprises, but dangers also lurk in the more mundane aspects of the Sunshine State. As anyone who has ever approached it by airplane has witnessed, Florida is the land of a thousand strip malls. Strip malls sound boring, but if you are that bored, browse the court decisions on Google Scholar, and you will find that the courts have issued many decisions about personal injury lawsuits arising from accidents that took place at strip malls. The parking lots of strip malls are notorious for their poor design, so cars frequently strike pedestrians walking to and from their cars. Florida drivers are so dangerous that they sometimes pick off pedestrians who are walking on strip mall walkways, and occasionally a car even crashes through a storefront. Even though the pill mills that once filled Florida’s strip malls with danger have now become smoke shops, assaults still sometimes take place in strip malls as people attempt to settle old grievances. Sometimes, though, flaws in the design of the strip mall itself or its state of maintenance lead to accidents that cause injury. If you have been injured due to dangerous conditions at a strip mall, contact a Fort Lauderdale premises liability lawyer.
10 People Hospitalized After Explosion on Restaurant’s Opening Day
Palm Bakery was a popular fixture of a strip mall in Florida City in Miami-Dade County, and after it closed, people eagerly anticipated the arrival of a new restaurant to take its place. It turned out that the new arrival is a family-owned restaurant called Caribbean’s Heart. It was supposed to open May 2025, and on the day of the grand opening, the owners were putting the final touches on the restaurant before it was to welcome its first customer.
In the morning, employees of a gas company were on site to help the owners set up the cooking equipment. While they were working, a propane gas explosion echoed through the strip mall and caused part of its roof to collapse above Caribbean’s Heart and adjacent stores. 10 people suffered injuries severe enough to require treatment. Ambulances took six people to the nearest hospital, while two patients required transportation to a hospital with a trauma center. Two other people drove themselves to the hospital for treatment. Some of the injured people were members of the family that owned the new restaurant, but news sources did not publish the names of any of the injured people.
News reports have not given any further information about the causes of the accident or how it could have been prevented. They also did not provide updates about the condition of the people injured in the explosion.
