Motorcycle Accidents in Florida

Motorcycle accidents in Florida are often serious and deadly in nature. While the statistics have varied over time, current numbers tell us that there are approximately 550 deaths due to motorcycle crashes in Florida each year. In 2015, the number of fatal motorcycle crashes reached a 20-year high, with 584 deaths on Florida’s roadways. This number represented about 20% of all fatal crashes reported in Florida that year. Since that time, the number has declined slightly although motorcycle crashes still comprise about 15% of all total fatal accidents in our state. This is despite motorcycles making up about 3% of all registered motor vehicles in Florida.

In many cases, motorcycle accidents take place due to the actions of negligent motorists. These motorists may fail to see the motorcycle until it is too late, resulting in a major collision. Due to the lack of protection offered by motorcycles, riders are often thrown from their bikes and will suffer serious injuries in the crash, including traumatic head and neck injuries. If the crash was caused by another driver, you could be entitled to compensation.
