Miami, FL - At Least One Hurt in Crash on NW 7th Street

Miami, FL (December 19, 2020) – Two cars were involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Miami on Wednesday, December 16th. The crash took place around 12:30 a.m. on Northwest 14th Avenue near 77th Terrace in the Gladeview neighborhood.

The Miami-Dade Police Department and fire rescue crews responded to the accident scene. According to a report from the scene, a white Hyundai and a second vehicle were involved in a crash. Following the accident, the white Hyundai traveled off the road and crashed through a chain-link fence in front of a home. The driver of the Hyundai, 40-year-old Edward “John” Durden, was killed in the crash.

The second vehicle, described as a black Kia SUV, fled the accident scene before police could arrive. Police are still looking for the driver and the vehicle at this time. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.  No additional details have been released.

We would like to send our most sincere condolences to the family of John Durden following this tragic hit-and-run crash in Miami.

Florida Hit-and-Run Accidents

A hit-and-run crash often has dangerous and devastating consequences, both for victims as well as their families. Hit-and-run accidents often result in some of the worst outcomes that we see. According to statistics, there were about 105,000 hit-and-run crashes reported in Florida in 2019. This number represented approximately 20% of all reported Florida car accidents during that time period.

Being the victim of a hit-and-run crash can be extremely frustrating. While the law requires drivers to remain at the scene, many of them choose not to obey the law. The penalties for fleeing the scene of an accident include potential jail time, fines, loss of driver’s license, and more. In addition, drivers who leave a crash scene often do so knowing that their negligence caused the crash in the first place. If this is the case, the driver will also face a civil lawsuit for damages from the victim or their family.

Under Florida law, when you have been affected by a hit-and-run accident you could be entitled to compensation for your injuries. If your loved one was killed in the crash, you may consider filing a wrongful death claim on their behalf.
