Motorcycle Accidents in Florida

Motorcyclists are considered vulnerable road users by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. This classification involves motorists who are at greater risk of death and injury when they are involved in a collision. According to statistics from 2019, there was a total of 8,895 reported motorcycle crashes in Florida. Although this number was down slightly from the year before, the number of fatalities actually increased. In 2019, 550 people were killed and 2,072 suffered incapacitating injuries as a result of motorcycle accidents in our state. Another 5,647 sustained non-incapacitating injuries. Overall, the rate of death and serious injury is far greater for motorcyclists than other motorists who are involved in crashes in our state.

Under Florida law, injured motorcyclists and their families could be entitled to compensation following a crash. Many Florida motorcycle accidents occur due to the fault of other drivers. These drivers can be distracted or otherwise unaware of motorcycles on the roadway, resulting in a crash with tragic and serious consequences. If you or a loved one have been hurt by a motorcycle accident in our state, you should contact an experienced attorney to review your case.
