Martin County, FL – Port St. Lucie Officer Joseph Byrne Hurt in Turnpike Crash
Martin County, FL (February 7, 2021) – A Port St. Lucie police officer was hurt in a crash on the Florida’s Turnpike on Saturday. The crash took place in Martin County.
According to reports from the scene, Officer Joseph Byrne was riding a motorcycle southbound on the turnpike when a tractor-trailer in front of him suffered a tire blowout. A piece of the tire became lodged underneath another tractor-trailer before flying backward and knocking Byrne from his bike. Rescue crews responded to the accident scene and transported Byrne to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was conscious and alert following the crash.
There is no word on whether any charges will be filed at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
