Lauderdale, FL - Girl Dies, Boy Hurt in Beach Accident on El Mar Dr

Lauderdale, FL (February 21, 2024) – On Tuesday, a girl died, and a boy was rushed to the hospital after becoming trapped in an accident near Lauderdale-by-the-Sea beach.

Two children became entangled and trapped in the sand at a beach on El Mar Drive for unknown reasons, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue (PBFR). PBFR stated that first responders were required to use spades and support planks to prevent additional sand from collapsing.

Both victims were transported to the Fort Lauderdale Broward Health Medical Center, where the girl died but the boy remains in stable condition. The incident is currently under investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased girl’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family.
