West Palm Beach, FL - One Killed, One Hurt in Motorcycle Crash on Bee Line Hwy.

West Palm Beach, FL (October 10, 2020) – One person was killed and another suffered injuries after a motorcycle accident that took place in West Palm Beach on Friday. The crash was reported around 9:55 a.m. on Bee Line Hwy. at the intersection with North Lake Boulevard.

The West Palm Beach Police Department, along with rescue workers, responded to the crash scene. According to police, a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Northlake when it collided with a dump truck that was traveling southbound on Bee Line. Officials believe that the crash was caused when the truck failed to stop for a red light and entered the intersection unlawfully.

A passenger on the motorcycle, 46-year-old Sandra Rios, died at the crash scene. The driver, 25-year-old Rodolfo Rios, was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The dump truck driver was not hurt.

Neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash according to police. An investigation remains ongoing and it is unclear what charges the driver will face.

We wish to extend our most sincere thoughts and condolences to the family of Rodolfo and Sandra Rios during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Accidents in Florida

Motorcycles are a popular form of transportation throughout Florida. With a warm climate and sunny day throughout the year, it is certainly common to see motorcycles throughout our state every day. While riding a motorcycle can be a fun activity, it certainly does not come without risks. According to current statistics, motorcycles comprise about 3% of all registered motor vehicles in our state, however, they account for about 15% of all fatal traffic accidents. A Florida motorcycle accident can leave you feeling devastated, especially if you were seriously hurt or you lost your loved one in the crash.

Motorcycle accidents take place very suddenly and unexpectedly. As we are all aware, motorcycles offer very little protection to the rider in case of a crash. Riders are often thrown from their bikes following the accident, increasing the chances of a serious injury as a result. A motorcycle accident in Florida can be caused for numerous reasons, however, the motorcyclist is not always at fault. In many cases, negligent drivers of other vehicles are to blame for the crash. Drivers who drive in a careless and reckless manner and choose to speed or fail to yield at traffic signals can easily cause a motorcycle crash to occur. Unfortunately, these crashes will likely have serious consequences.
