Miami, FL – Officer Hospitalized in Multi-Vehicle Pileup on Palmetto Expy

Miami, FL (October 4, 2023) – On Monday morning, local traffic on the Palmetto Expressway was severely impacted when an officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department was involved in a collision involving multiple vehicles, and officers have since released additional details.

On the southbound fast lanes of the Palmetto Expressway near Northwest 58th Street, just after 6:00 a.m., an unmarked police car was rear-ended, according to police scanners.

The investigator was helping the Florida Highway Patrol with an earlier collision, according to Miami-Dade Police authorities. The police officer was blocking traffic when their vehicle was struck. The female officer was taken to the hospital, where her condition was reported to be stable.

Five other vehicles had crashed into each other on the highway, though details on those victims remain unclear. An investigation is still ongoing.
