Margate, FL - Seven Hospitalized in Work Truck Crash on Atlantic Blvd

Margate, FL (November 12, 2023) – On Saturday night, a truck from the City of Margate crashed into a GameStop, sending seven people to the hospital, including one who is in serious condition, according to the police.

Per officers, a Margate Parks and Recreation Department worker sped up their work vehicle and smashed into the GameStop at the Lakewood Shopping Center on Atlantic Boulevard and 54th Street. Police said that only moments earlier, the same municipal truck had been involved in a minor collision with another vehicle in the parking lot.

One individual at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach is in “extremely critical condition.” Three other persons with serious injuries are now being treated at Broward Health North but are anticipated to make a complete recovery.

The truck driver and two passengers were among the three victims sent to HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate with non-life-threatening injuries.

While Margate police are investigating the collision, the agency stated it “does not appear” to have been caused by a medical condition.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their loved ones.
