Daytona Beach, FL (November 22, 2023) – On Tuesday, officials in Florida said that firefighters who responded to an apartment fire discovered a deceased woman and seriously injured children.
According to officials, the fire broke out at the Countryside Apartments at 1200 Beville Road in Daytona Beach just before midnight on Monday. Daytona Beach police Deputy Chief Jennifer Whittet informed reporters that they discovered a 30-year-old woman, along with three children who were 1, 4, and 5 years old. The youngest child was in cardiac arrest upon first responders’ arrival at the scene, and EMTs rushed the child to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The child was pronounced dead a short time later. Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said that the two surviving children were transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville and remain in serious condition. An investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased victims’ families. Our thoughts are with the injured children and their loved ones in hopes of their full recovery.
