West Palm Beach, FL - Antonio Hurtado Gonzales Killed in Hit-and-Run on S. Military Trl.

West Palm Beach, FL (January 2, 2021) – Police are searching for a driver after a hit-and-run crash left a 28-year-old Port St. Lucie man dead on New Year’s Day. The crash occurred just before 5:00 a.m. in the 2000 block of South Military Trail in West Palm Beach.

According to a report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Robin Antonio Hurtado Gonzales was walking northbound along the sidewalk on Military Trial when he attempted to cross the street. As he stepped into the roadway, he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Military Trail. The driver failed to stop after the crash. Gonzales was pulled from the road by a friend and was lying on the sidewalk when rescue crews arrived. Medical aid was given at the scene but Gonzales ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Police are currently looking for a 2016 to 2018 Ford F-150 in connection with the accident. The color of the vehicle is not known at this time but it is believed that the truck will have damage from the accident. Anyone with additional details is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS or Investigator A. Loudermilk of the PBSO at 561-681-4541.

No additional information is available at this time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Florida

Pedestrian accidents in Florida are highly likely to lead to some type of injury for the victim. According to statistics released by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were 9,736 pedestrian crashes in Florida in 2019. From this number, 6,339 injuries were reported of which 1,524 were considered incapacitating injuries. In addition, there were 734 deaths reported in these crashes. These numbers certainly show us that being hurt in a Florida pedestrian accident is, sadly, quite common. Further, many people who are injured will suffer serious injuries or even death as a result of the crash.

With these sobering statistics in mind, it is important to understand your legal rights when you or your loved one has been affected by a Florida pedestrian crash. Under our state’s law, you may be entitled to compensation if the driver was at fault for your accident. Many pedestrian crashes take place at intersections where drivers and pedestrians come into contact with one another. Drivers may fail to yield the right-of-way or may be otherwise distracted, leading to a catastrophic accident. In this case, the pedestrian or their family may be entitled to bring a claim for compensation due to injuries and damages sustained in the crash.
