Product Liability Lawsuits Arising From Chicken McNuggets

ChickenNugget

Consumers who get injured by consumer products when using the product in the manner and for the purpose that the manufacturer intended have the right to seek compensation for their injury-related financial losses by filing a product liability lawsuit. Many product liability claims against pharmaceutical companies arise when patients who take the drugs as directed suffer adverse reactions for which the drug manufacturer did not warn of the risks; some of these lawsuits have led to drugs being withdrawn from the market, in addition to courts ordering the drug companies to pay compensation to the injured patients. Other common targets of product liability claims are the manufacturers of furniture and children’s toys. Food manufacturers can also be the targets of product liability lawsuits if their food products cause injury, and McDonald’s has found itself in the hot seat more than once. The lawsuit by Stella Liebeck, the woman who suffered third-degree burns when she spilled near-boiling McDonald’s coffee on her legs while sitting in a parked car, is only the most publicized lawsuit and the one where the injuries were the most severe and the money at stake was the greatest amount. If you got injured because of defective products at a fast food restaurant, contact a Fort Lauderdale personal injury lawyer.

Child Suffers Burns From Excessively Hot McNugget

A family was eating at a McDonald’s in South Florida, and their four-year-old daughter ordered Chicken McNuggets. The McNuggets were so hot that, when the child bit into one, it caused her to suffer second-degree burns. The family sued McDonald’s for product liability, seeking compensation for the child’s medical expenses and other unspecified damages, and the court ruled in favor of McDonald’s.

Boneless Wings Are Better Than Bone-In McNuggets

Did you hear the one about the guy who sued a chicken wing restaurant because the so-called boneless wings were not really chicken wings, but just chicken nuggets? Alexei Stolfat had the opposite problem. In May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, when there was nothing to do to take your mind off of the sense of impending doom except to order food from your favorite fast food restaurants, Stolfat and his wife ordered Chicken McNuggets from a nearby McDonald’s and had it delivered by Uber Eats. One of the McNuggets contained a piece of bone, and when Stolfat bit it, he felt a sharp pain in his tooth. The pain did not go away, and when Stolfat went to the dentist the next day, the dentist took an X-ray and determined that there were two cracks in the tooth, which would require extensive repair, or perhaps even tooth extraction. He sued McDonald’s for product liability. As of 2023, his lawsuit was still pending.
