Vehicle Accidents in Florida

Each year, there are around 400,000 auto collisions in Florida that cause over 250,000 injuries and more than 3,000 deaths. A car accident takes place in Florida approximately 1,000 times per day, or approximately once every 84 seconds.

Victims injured in accidents are often forced to undergo surgery immediately after their accidents. In many cases, victims have to spend days or even weeks in area hospitals receiving treatment for their injuries. Far too many victims are required to spend time in rehabilitation facilities and go to physical and occupational therapy for several months. Ideally, we would like to see everyone recover from their accidents. Regrettably, this is not always the case. Instead, tens of thousands of people are left permanently disabled and to deal with ongoing pain and suffering. When victims are harmed in accidents caused by negligent drivers, it is crucial that they seek legal guidance from a knowledgeable car accident attorney in Florida as soon as possible.

These collisions can take place for a number of different reasons, but the current leading cause of car accidents in Florida is distracted driving, specifically texting and driving, which accounts for approximately 16% of the fatal accident rate in Florida. Speeding is another leading cause of Florida auto accidents, causing 426 fatal auto accidents in Florida in 2017. This is approximately 14% of the statewide accident fatality rate. These are both unfortunately negligent human behaviors that can easily be prevented with mindfulness and increased attention while driving. It is important to stay alert, aware, and sober while driving in order to keep yourself and others safe while on the road.
