Injuries Arising From a Rough Ride on a Rollercoaster

AmusementPark

People who are afraid even to get on rollercoasters can tell you in vivid detail about the things that can go wrong. The rollercoaster cars can derail, leading to disaster. If the safety harnesses are inadequate, customers can fall out of the cars and plunge to their deaths.  The most phobic people can still recount that incident, from many years back, when a man climbed out of the car on Disney’s Splash Mountain, before the big drop, because he was feeling motion sick, but an animatronic forest creature ran over him, killing him. If the rollercoaster doesn’t malfunction and you stay inside the car like you are supposed to, though, how bad can it be? Unless you are young and healthy, the rough ride on a rollercoaster can aggravate your aches and pains, but this only serves as a reminder that you may be nearing the end of your career as a Disney adult and should stick to conventional adulting. Rollercoaster rides are not supposed to be so bumpy that they cause injuries that require medical treatment, though. If you get injured just by doing what you are supposed to do on a rollercoaster, that is negligence on the part of the theme park operator, for operating an unsafe ride. If your rollercoaster ride was so bumpy that it landed you in the hospital, contact a Fort Lauderdale premises liability lawyer.

Guest Needs Back Surgery After Riding Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Ride

Last year, in a state not too far from Florida, a man rode a wooden rollercoaster that has been in operation for decades, and its promotional materials boast about this. The ride on the rickety rollercoaster was so bumpy that it left the man paralyzed from the waist down.

One would not expect such a thing from the Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure ride at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. The park did not even open until 1999, and the Harry Potter-themed area did not open until after the books and movies enjoyed sustained popularity. Despite this, a man sustained severe injuries when he rode the ride. Guests sit on motorcycles on a fixed track, and the ride takes them through several sudden dips and a 17-foot drop. After Smith rode the ride, he suffered from severe, chronic back pain, which he had never experienced before the visit to Orlando. He eventually needed surgery to correct it.

This person lives in Texas, but he filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Florida, since the Florida courts have jurisdiction to rule on personal injury cases about injuries sustained in Florida. He alleges negligence on the part of Universal Studios for operating such a rough ride. He is requesting $30,000 in damages as compensation for the medical expenses he incurred because of his injuries.
