Florida Auto Collisions

The Sunshine State sees more car accidents than almost any other state in the nation. This is probably due to the extremely high population and year-round nice weather. In 2018, Florida saw 397,812 auto accidents take place with 251,970 injuries and 3,004 deaths. According to statistical records, there were 402,489 reported traffic accidents in Florida in 2017 with over 254,300 injuries and 3,114 deaths. This is a mere 1% difference between the accident rates for 2017 and 2018.

Auto accidents in Florida can occur for many different reasons, but currently, the leading cause is distracted driving, specifically texting and driving. This dangerous and negligent driver behavior accounts for nearly a quarter of all car accidents in the Sunshine State. Unfortunately, about 94% of auto accidents in the US are the result of some form of driver negligence.

A traffic collision in Florida is estimated to take place approximately once every 84 seconds, or over 1,000 times per day. Yearly, Florida sees about 400,000 traffic accidents take place. Florida is ranked as one of the most dangerous states to travel through due to its high accident-fatality rate. However, Florida is one of the most highly-populated states in the nation, which directly correlates with its statistical values.
