Florida Boating Accidents

With a warm climate and an abundance of lakes and waterways, Florida is a very attractive destination for boaters. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people enjoy the outdoor life that our state has to offer. However, it is important to keep in mind some of the very serious risks that go along with operating boats and other vehicles on the water. In 2019, there were 679 reported Florida boating accidents and 55 people were killed as a result of these crashes. A boating accident can include anything from a large yacht down to personal watercraft, such as jet skis and tubes. During the busiest times of the year in the spring and summer, a boating crash in Florida takes place nearly every day.

Many boating accidents in Florida take place due to operator error. Watercraft operators may be distracted, impaired, or inexperienced and unable to handle the machine that they are operating. Unfortunately, these errors in judgment can result in serious or fatal accidents in a matter of seconds. Often, innocent victims end up being killed due to someone else’s negligence.
