Ft Lauderdale, FL – One Hurt, Eight Rescued in House Fire on 17th St

Ft Lauderdale, FL - One Hurt, Eight Rescued in House Fire on 17th St

Fort Lauderdale, FL (October 19, 2023) – A fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a Fort Lauderdale house, forcing out a family of eight and injuring one person, according to authorities.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Garrett Pingol said the fire broke out at 5:40 a.m. in the 3000 block of Northwest 17th Street and that they were summoned to the scene because people were trapped inside.

He said that all eight occupants evacuated the burning building before firemen arrived. The victim of the fire, who was evacuated to a nearby hospital, is in fair condition.

There were three adults and five children rescued.

The American Red Cross South Florida Region is helping the victims, and an investigation will be handled by Fort Lauderdale Fire.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families.
