Fatal Accidents in Florida

Fatal crashes take place each day, multiple times per day throughout our state. More than 3,000 people were killed due to Florida car accidents in 2019. An average of eight people per day will lose their lives due to traffic accidents. When a fatal crash occurs, police must conduct a careful investigation into the crash and its cause. This means taking photographs at the scene, interviewing witnesses, and determine if alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash. In almost all instances, a fatal accident could have been avoided if the driver had been obeying traffic laws and driving in a safe and responsible manner.

Certainly, there is nothing more devastating than the sudden loss of a loved one due to a car accident in Florida. This is especially true if your loved one was killed through no fault of their own. In such cases, family members are left feeling lonely, overwhelmed, and confused. Fortunately, there may be some steps that you can take to help ease some of the pain that was caused by such a tragic event.

Under Florida law, the victim’s heirs may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the driver who was responsible for the death occurring. A wrongful death action seeks compensation for various aspects, including loss of consortium, payment of funeral and medical bills, compensation for lost wages, and more. While no amount of money will ever replace the loss that you have suffered, your settlement can still help you avoid being in a financial bind as a result of the crash.
