Pedestrian Crashes in Florida

According to A Safer Florida, the Sunshine State has the highest pedestrian death rate in the nation. This could also be due to the fact that Florida possesses one of the highest populations in the nation which, in turn, makes for high accident rates.

Between 2005 and 2014, 46,149 individuals across the United States lost their lives due to fatal pedestrian accidents. During this same timespan, 5,142 people were killed in pedestrian accidents in Florida. This means that Florida accounted for approximately 11% of the pedestrian fatality rate in the nation from 2005 to 2014.

Pedestrians are at an increased risk of suffering severe and/or fatal injuries in traffic accidents due to being totally unprotected while traveling alongside much larger, faster vehicles. The consequences of serious pedestrian accidents can be extremely overwhelming and negatively affect multiple areas of a person’s life, including their physical, mental, emotional, and financial health. When a person is killed in a negligently caused pedestrian crash, it is crucial that their family seek legal guidance from a qualified and skilled Florida wrongful death attorney at their earliest convenience. Family members could qualify for financial compensation in order to pay for things like outstanding medical bills, funeral costs, and other costs associated with their loved one’s accident.

If you or someone you love has recently been injured in a Florida pedestrian accident, a Florida personal injury attorney will be able to inform you of your existing legal rights toward monetary compensation. Generally speaking, when someone acts in a negligent or careless manner that results in injuries to another person, under the legal principle of “negligence” the careless party will be legally liable for any resulting harm.
