Pompano Beach, FL – Two Killed in Collision Between Car & Scooter on S Dixie Hwy
Pompano Beach, FL (October 19, 2020) – Two people have lost their lives after being struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene yesterday morning.
The crash occurred just before 6:40 a.m. on the morning of October 18 when a 24-year-old driver by the name of Danilo Morataya Perez was headed north on South Dixie Highway in his Toyota Camry. For unknown reasons, he struck a motorized scooter occupied by two individuals, killing both of them.
Authorities along with paramedics were immediately called to assist at the scene of the collision. Upon their arrival, they found a totaled Honda scooter on the side of the road along with two deceased victims.
The two men on the scooter were only identified as a man in his 40s and a man in his 50s. They both died due to the injuries they sustained in the wreck.
Perez left the scene of the collision without stopping to render aid or waiting to cooperate with police officers. Perez’s Camry was discovered several blocks away and he was ultimately apprehended and arrested for the hit-and-run.
