Fatal Car Accidents in Florida

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there was a total of 401,867 car accidents in Florida in 2019. Tragically, 3,185 people lost their lives in these accidents. Many of the victims of Florida car accidents were killed in crashes that were caused by someone else’s negligence. While we do not typically think of rear-end collisions as being serious, they can cause death and catastrophic injuries to occur, especially if they take place at a high rate of speed. Many rear-end crashes are caused by the negligence of other motorists who are distracted from the roadway for one reason or another.

If you have lost a family member in a Florida car accident, our thoughts are with you. Certainly, there are few things more devastating than the sudden loss of a loved one, especially when your family member was killed in a crash that was not their fault. During this time, you rightfully have questions concerning your legal options. Fortunately, there is help available.

Under Florida law, the family member of a deceased crash victim may be entitled to file an action for wrongful death. Under these cases, the victim’s family can pursue compensation for lost wages, payment of funeral and medical bills, loss of companionship, and possibly more. Due to their complexity, wrongful death claims should only be handled by an experienced attorney.
