Bicycle Collisions in Florida

With a year-round warm climate and many different trails and roadways, Florida is a popular state for bicyclists. Riding a bicycle is enjoyable and is also a good form of exercise for Floridians who are looking to get outdoors. However, bicyclists also face risks that come each time they get on their bikes. With 5.7 deaths per million, Florida currently ranks first in the nation among the deadliest states for bicyclists. In 2018, 110 people were killed in Florida bicycle accidents and many more suffered injuries. Bicycles offer little protection to riders in the event of a collision and the injuries suffered are often severe and catastrophic.

Many bicycle accidents in Florida take place due to the negligence of others. Distraction, impairment, inexperienced riding, and failing to yield are all major causes of these incidents. When a bicyclist is hurt due to the negligence of another person, they may have a legal right to recover compensation under Florida’s personal injury laws. This includes payment for pain and suffering, lost wages, medical bills, and potentially more. Only an experienced bicycle accident lawyer in Florida can look at your case and evaluate it to determine what you can recover on account of your injuries.
