Construction Worker Suffers Leg Injury During Work Site Accident

A Miami construction worker has suffered injuries as a result of a work site accident during which he was pinned underneath a wall. The worker was rescued from the scene by emergency personnel and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment; fortunately, no one else was injured as a result of the accident and the injured worker was in fair condition.

Workplace Safety Shows Improvement

It is not just construction workers who suffer injuries due to construction site accidents.  Pedestrians and passersby are often injured by falling debris or other work site hazards. However, construction workers themselves are most at risk for injuries in an accident work zone. The United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has helped to ensure that workplace safety has improved since its creation over 40 years ago, and fatalities have been cut to a third of those suffered as a result of on-the-job accidents in the 1970s. However, accidents, injuries, and deaths do still occur with far more frequency than should be, and continued efforts for workplace safety and compliance with safety regulations are necessary.

Compliance With Safety Regulations

Companies involved in the construction industry have strict regulations that must be followed in order to lessen the likelihood of injuries to both workers and non-workers. Failure to comply with the regulations in place puts the construction companies at a higher risk that accidents will occur and, therefore, it is certainly in their best interest to comply with the regulations for their own benefit. When an accident does occur, prompt reporting of the incidents – reporting both by those involved in the accident to the employer, and reporting by the employer to OSHA – helps contribute to increased awareness of potential workplace dangers. As with anything, knowledge is power – and the knowledge that a workplace hazard exists allows those responsible for the situation to make the appropriate changes in policy and procedure to correct the dangerous situation to prevent further incidents and injuries.
